Road safety in Libya

Vehicle breakdown in Libya? Put safety first

Put people’s safety before attempting a repair. If possible, move to a place with less exposure to moving traffic. Do not take any step outside the vehicle if it would put you at risk.

If there is immediate danger

If anyone is injured, there is a fire, a risk of collision, or the vehicle is stopped in a live traffic lane, prioritize safety and contact local emergency services. Do not use the Assist form or the company’s general number to report an emergency.

First steps after a breakdown

01

Move to a safer place if possible

If the vehicle is still moving, slow down gradually and, if possible, move to a safe place away from traffic. Avoid stopping in a live lane unless there is no alternative. Use hazard lights if it is safe to do so.

02

Leave only if it is safe

If it is safe to exit, use the side furthest from traffic and move yourself and passengers to a safe place away from the vehicle and the carriageway. If leaving is unsafe, stay inside with seat belts fastened and hazard lights on, and contact local emergency services.

03

Do not take risks to repair the vehicle

Do not stand between the vehicle and moving traffic. Do not attempt a repair or place a warning triangle or other equipment on the road if doing so requires approaching traffic; follow local rules and use safety equipment only when it can be done safely.
